A contemporary Lippan artwork featuring the sacred Sri Yantra, handcrafted with clay and mirror work to represent cosmic harmony, balance, divine energy, and the union of masculine and feminine forces.

Clay & Cosmos is a contemporary interpretation of the sacred Sri Yantra, created using the traditional-inspired Lippan Art technique of Gujarat. The artwork brings together geometric precision, handcrafted clay relief, and reflective mirrors to explore themes of balance, symmetry, spirituality, and cosmic energy.

At the centre of the composition is the Sri Yantra, one of the most revered geometric symbols in Indian spiritual traditions. It represents Lalita Tripura Sundari, a form of the Divine Mother or Shakti, as well as the structure and unity of the cosmos.

The Sri Yantra consists of nine interlocking triangles, creating a complex geometric arrangement around a central point. These triangles represent the union of masculine and feminine energies. Surrounding the central geometry are concentric circles and lotus petals, while the entire configuration is enclosed within a square structure featuring four gates.

The artwork is handcrafted by carefully rolling and shaping mould-it clay and fixing it onto the canvas according to the geometric structure of the Sri Yantra. Different shapes of craft mirrors are then incorporated into the design, creating reflections that change beautifully with the surrounding light.

The mirrors add another layer of meaning to the artwork, representing reflection, awareness, and the relationship between the individual and the universe. The tactile clay work combined with the reflective surface creates a striking contrast between earth and light—giving the artwork its name, Clay & Cosmos.

Sri Yantra is traditionally regarded as a powerful symbol for meditation, spiritual growth, positive energy, prosperity, and good fortune. Through this contemporary Lippan interpretation, the artist transforms these spiritual ideas into a visually engaging work of handcrafted Indian art.

Presented in a golden frame, this artwork combines traditional Gujarati craftsmanship with contemporary design, making it suitable for meditation spaces, living rooms, offices, galleries, and collectors of Indian folk and spiritual art.
